HOLY MACARONI
I consider myself ,fairly up to date on this sort of stuff, but was unaware this existed.
http://www.wsetech.com/solarcooker.php Kind of looks like a must have for the price. |
Re: HOLY MACARONI
You don't even need something that complex. Hell you can build a solar cooker out of space blanket and a cardboard box. There are tons of solar cooker links out there.

Re: HOLY MACARONI
A slow cooker or "Solar Oven" is much more useful.
I own a commercial one, paid about the same price, load it up in the morning and supper's done by 4:00. |
Re: HOLY MACARONI
My boy scout manual has instructions to build your own solar oven, among other temporary cooking implements like an over fire spit. DIY always lasts longer, or shorter as the case may be... Longer if it's a permanant implement, or shorter (with no waste) if it is a one time use thing.

Re: HOLY MACARONI
Just a warning: those things don't work well in the more humid parts of the country.

Re: HOLY MACARONI
I tried building one with wood, aluminum foil and glass. It's a single reflector type. my oven thermostat says it reached about 200F at noon on the bottom of the oven. The thermostat was placed on a light gray colored cookie sheet. Is that hot enough for cooking rice if I used a black pot? What typically is the air temperature inside of a solar oven? Does the black pot get hotter than the air around it? I don't want to invest in a black pot until I'm sure my oven can cook. TIA

Re: HOLY MACARONI
The one (Solar Oven) that ImaCannin' posted above is the best rated one on the market. The only thing about it that puts me off is the small size.
